In our 40th year, we receive a record 拢1 million donation from global investor Dale W. Wood to help 鈥榖reak the silence鈥 and transform the future of bone health in the UK
In our 40th anniversary year, we at the 黑料社 (ROS) are honoured to receive a transformative pledge of 拢1 million from philanthropist, entrepreneur and global investor Dale W. Wood, made via his firm Dale Ventures, to help power our ambitious mission to beat osteoporosis.听
Dale鈥檚 significant donation recognises the scale and urgency of our strategy as the UK鈥檚 leading bone health charity.听
Osteoporosis is one of the most urgent public health crises of the modern era, with half of women and one in five men aged over 50 likely to break a bone due to low bone density. This extraordinary support represents one of the most meaningful private investments in UK bone health, enabling us to strengthen early diagnosis, expand and enhance our support services, and help prevent thousands of avoidable fractures in the years ahead.
Dale W. Wood is the founder and chairman of the global venture capital firm Dale Ventures, which invests in a wide range of global companies across the finance, technology, real estate and consumer sectors, including several UK鈥慴ased tech firms.
A spokesperson for Dale Ventures said:
鈥淚t is a huge honour for Dale to support the 黑料社this year. Dale鈥檚 ambition is that, by working together, we can enable new developments and innovations that strengthen the support and care available to people affected by osteoporosis and raise awareness of this 鈥榮ilent鈥 condition across the nation. We know that his gift will support the delivery of much鈥憂eeded help, guidance and reassurance for those living with osteoporosis and thoroughly deserving of the best treatment and care possible.鈥

Craig Jones, our CEO, said:
鈥淲e are incredibly grateful to Dale for recognising the scale of the opportunity to transform bone health in the UK. Dale鈥檚 gift will be a powerful catalyst in accelerating and expanding our work nationwide. Today, two鈥憈hirds of people with osteoporosis are missing out on safe, effective medication, leaving them vulnerable to fractures which can steal their independence and threaten their lives. With Dale鈥檚 help, we鈥檒l give tens of thousands of people back their lives and their futures.鈥
We will use this generous gift to launch new initiatives to improve early diagnosis, prevention and widen access to high鈥憅uality treatment and care. This will include investing in AI and digital tools to make support easier to access. The funding will also help us identify and warn people at greater risk of devastating fractures, with a particular focus on people from deprived areas who face a significantly higher risk of multiple fractures, longer hospital stays and premature death.
Osteoporosis is common, treatable and often preventable 鈥 but only if people know their risk. That鈥檚 why we invite everyone to complete our , a free 3鈥憁inute online risk checker designed to help people understand whether they might be vulnerable to osteoporosis.
Backed by Her Majesty The Queen, our President, more than half a million people across the UK have already completed it.
Even more encouragingly, 84% of them have taken action as a result of their results.
This is estimated to lead to up to 71,000 people receiving an early diagnosis, giving them the chance to protect their bones before fractures start happening.
